Greetings everyone! It is with great pleasure that I announce the winner of the 2025 Tournament of Ice Cream.
By a vote of 16 to 10, the winner of the inaugural Tournament of Ice Cream is…
Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia!
This pint was entered by friend of blog, Adrian, and his family. They are currently on vacation in Japan, and so they unfortunately could not be reached for comment about the triumph of their tournament entry. However, they did send me their thoughts on the final round before they left on their trip. I’ve included a few excerpts here:
“The combination between the ice cream, chocolate chunks, and cherries is craveable, no matter what kind of mood you’re in. I wouldn’t necessarily go for coconut any day of the week, compared to how I could eat Cherry Garcia any day. I usually get overwhelmed by things that are too sweet, and even though all the ingredients, cherries, ice cream and chocolate are sweet, it doesn’t feel like it s a cloying sweetness.”
“It's pretty cool you can put so much in an ice cream. If it was just cherry ice cream, it wouldn’t be as good without chocolate or cherry chunks.”
“These are both amazing flavors, and it isn't easy to choose one over the other since they're so different.”
Mitchell’s Macapuno is indeed an amazing flavor, and made a good showing with 10 votes (full disclosure, I voted for Macapuno). But it wasn’t enough to overcome the popularity of Cherry Garcia!
So congratulations to Adrian and family, and to Cherry Garcia, on being crowned the winners of this year’s tournament! A well deserved victory! An as yet to be determined prize will be awarded to the winning family. Adrian & co., I’ll be in touch with details soon.
Well, it looks like that’s a wrap on the first annual Tournament of Ice Cream. Doing this has been such a blast, and I’m looking forward to an even better tournament next year. A 2026 Tournament subcommittee will be forming in the coming months, so let me know if you’re interested in participating. 🤣
Have a great weekend everyone!
